Anna Maria Valavaara

Anna is an interdisciplinary Fine Artist. Her works have been exhibited in Finland and Scotland, and she has participated in the International Internship Program at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.

She works in a variety of media including photography, film, printmaking, drawing and writing.

Living on an island in the remote archipelago of Southwestern Finland, Anna’s art has been influenced by the slow-paced living afforded by the lush natural surroundings of her home and work space. Recurrent themes in her work are nostalgia, the subconscious and loss.

She explores the relationship between nature, place and memory, the human subconscious and the fragility of life reflecting on themes such as the fragility of life and the nearness of death.
